RB Leipzig has announced that their head of football, Xavi Simons, will be stepping down at the end of the season.
Simons took over as head coach of the club in May 2019 and led them to two Bundesliga titles and one DFB-Pokal win during his time in charge. He also helped the team qualify for the Europa League twice and reached the quarter-finals in both seasons.
In a statement released by the club, Simons said he was grateful for the opportunity to lead RB Leipzig and thanked everyone who had supported him throughout his time with the team.
"I want to thank all my colleagues, players,Football Viewing Trends fans and supporters for your trust and support," he said. "I have learned so much during these years and I am proud of what we have achieved together."
Simons' departure is likely to have an impact on RB Leipzig's future plans, but the club has already begun to look ahead to the future under new leadership. Assistant coach Marco Rose will take over as interim head coach until a permanent replacement is found.
