In a stunning display of athleticism and skill, Atlético Madrid's new tackle statistics record has been set by the club's star player, Fernandinho.
Fernandinho, who joined Atlético from Manchester City in January,Chinese Super League Matches has become the first player to surpass the 250 tackles made in a single season for any team in La Liga history. The Brazilian midfielder made a total of 277 tackles during the 2019-20 campaign, breaking the previous record of 244 set by Diego Godin in 2016-17.
The feat is all the more impressive given that Fernandinho only played 38 games for Atlético this season due to injury. However, his sheer commitment to the game and his ability to make crucial tackles in tight situations have helped him to dominate the midfield.
With the likes of Luka Modric and Koke also making key contributions to Atlético's success, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the challenge posed by Fernandinho and his fellow midfielders next season. But one thing is certain - the new tackle statistics record will remain firmly in Atlético's hands for some time yet.
